The main factors involved in Web design include visuals, technology, content, delivery, and purpose. There is some planning when it comes to Web design such as deciding what layout, colors, imagery, font size and type to use on Web sites. The actual design part of the website includes things such as contrast, lines, shapes, texture, color, and more. Good web designers take advantage of tools and resources such as coding language tags, plug-ins such as Java Script, images, text, and flash.

Taking all of these things into consideration, you want the website that you design to be attractive and display creativity. A website with a good design attracts more attention and visitors to the site. You not only want to have an attractive website, but also one that is user-friendly.

Some people consider the development and organization of content as the most important part of Web design. Factors such as the ease of use, the value and purpose/service of the website to the organization's overall existence and well-being, and the delivery of the site are all important things to consider when deciding on Web design.

Different Types of Web Pages and Sites:

Web pages that use a method of dynamic page are designed in a way that the pages of it can be modified or changed; this allows contents of the Web page to be changed by the owner of the website and anyone with the correct permissions. The web design of a website is somewhat determined by what type of website it is. Websites can be categorized into these main types: informational, transactional, community, entertainment, or other. Information sites provide information about a subject or organization. Information sites are the most common Web sites on the Web. Transactional sites are often used to conduct some type of transaction or task. Community sites provide information and interaction between visitors of the Web site. Entertainment sites are used for playing games or for other entertainment purposes. Other sites may include personal Web sites, artistic sites, and blogs.

Some Web sites rely more on text and others on graphics. Many sites contain graphical user interface (GUI) that includes menu bars, icons, and pop-up windows. Some Web sites have the need to be very visual or interactive; a good example of this would be a Web site about cars.

The Web Designer and the Users:

Web sites should not be built for the Web designer and his/her needs; the users of the Web site should really be the focus. Sometimes it is appropriate to ask the user(s) how they would like the site designed. Of course, average users are not going to be able to design Web sites and they sometimes have unrealistic views and expectations. Users don't have the knowledge and understanding that a Web designer has. Successful Web design uses both the point of view of the user and the Web designer's expertise. There needs to be a fine balance between the form of the site and the functions, users and Web designers, content and task, and traditional and new.
